Are you a carer?

Everyone cares for their family and friends, but some family members and friends need extra care and support due to an illness, condition or disability.

If you provide that care, you are a carer.

How do I know if I'm a carer?

Lots of people don’t realise they are a carer, here are a few things that might help you decide.

  • Do you help someone who couldn’t cope without you?

  • Maybe you support them all the time, or just a few hours a week.

  • If they rely on you because of illness, disability or age — you are a carer.

Still not sure? Watch this short video from our Marketing and Comms Lead, Jenny Hewitt:

Why is it important to know if you're a carer?

  • Becoming a carer can feel overwhelming. You suddenly have extra responsibilities, but may not know where to go for help.

  • Caring for someone can be rewarding – but it can also be tiring and stressful.

  • Getting the right advice and support at the right time can really help – for both you and the person you care for.
