Experts by Experience What is an Expert by Experience? Here at Worcestershire Association of Carers (WAC), we believe that carers are the Experts by Experience (EbE). We recognise and value every carer and we believe that every carer has a voice, a perspective, and a lived experience that should be heard. You have the knowledge, skills and experience that we, at Carer Voice, want to tap into to grow our collective carer voice and influence; and to help achieves positive outcomes for carers across Worcestershire e.g. the improvement and development of new services for carers and their cared for. This is because carers have an insight into what works and also what may require development. Whilst we would always welcome you to become a Carer Rep and get more fully involved in ongoing co-produced pieces of work, we understand that carers are not always able to attend meetings due to caring, work or other commitments. Therefore, appreciating that not everyone has the time to be a Carer Rep, we want to provide you with the opportunity to become an EbE. The EbE role is open to all carers, from all caring backgrounds: for example, if you are caring for an adult or a child with learning disabilities, autism, dementia, or a mental health condition (this list is not exhaustive). Becoming an EbE gives you the opportunity to be part of a group of fellow carers to have your say on a variety of carer-related issues. The commitment can be as much or as little as you choose and your involvement can be online, in person or a mixture of both – we are fully committed to offering hybrid meetings to all carers. To start with, we invite you to get in touch with us at Carer Voice to have an in person or online chat about how you would like to get involved, dependent on your circumstances. That might just mean answering a survey occasionally or sending us an email response on a specific issue you have lived experience of. We are happy for you to have as much or as little engagement as suits you and your life circumstances. We very much hope you choose to join our EbE group and be part of the conversation!
