If you do, whether you are a friend, neighbour or relative, the CARERS EMERGENCY CARD has been designed with YOU in mind.
Ken looks after his wife, Louise, who is totally immobile. One Friday morning while out shopping Ken collapsed and had to be taken to hospital. It was 6.00 o'clock in the evening before anyone realised that Louise was at home in bed, with no idea what had happened. She was extremely worried and distressed and had not been able to get up or contact anyone. Louise was alone for nearly 9 hours. Catherine cares for her husband, George, who has Alzheimer's Disease. Although Catherine looks after George full time and copes extremely well, there have been occasions when George has wandered away from home or day care. It has been very difficult for people, whether emergency services or concerned passers-by, to find out where George lives and who cares for him. The cases above are just two examples of situations that happen every day; they may be time-consuming and upsetting for all involved. Through the Carers Emergency Card service we hope to help end the anxiety and confusion that occurs in such situations and give you a sense of security and peace of mind. The idea is very simple. You carry the yellow card with you and should you have an accident or be taken ill it will immediately let people know that someone is depending on you. When the card is found it clearly instructs the finder to ring the emergency telephone number and give your name and emergency number. The telephone number goes directly to the Emergency Line at Redditch Lifeline, which is staffed 24 hours a day. The Lifeline staff hold the information you gave us on your application form. They will immediately know who to contact and what to do in an emergency. The CARERS EMERGENCY CARD is bright yellow, to ensure it attracts attention. It is the same size as a credit card so that it can easily be carried in a wallet, purse or pocket. If you would prefer a larger size card, simply indicate this on your application form. If you wish, the person you care for can also be issued with a card to carry. This will provide you with the added peace of mind that, should they be involved in an emergency, help will be at hand. The two cards look like this: |
